I recently did a comparison post between THE ORDINARY’S MARINE HYALURONICS and THE HYALURONIC ACID – 2%. Here’s a link to it – https://thesissociate.com/2019/09/14/the-ordinary-hyaluronic-2-b5-versus-marine-hyaluronics/

Please do give it a read if you feel like.

I wonder if that post was able to help anyone make a decision between either of the two Hyaluronic Acid formulations from The Ordinary. I however have made my decision and that it is to stick to the 2% Hyaluronic Acid +B5

Below are the reasons why I won’t be purchasing the Marine Hyaluronics.

  1. The formula is too runny: One of the main differences between the Hyaluronic Acid 2% and the Marine Hyaluronics is the viscosity, the former being quite viscous and the latter being very runny/watery. The Marine Hyaluronics is extremely thin and watery, so much that the application gets quite tricky. Within moments of dispensing a drop on to your cheek, the formula has already run down to your neck, and as a result you have got to be quick in placing the dispenser back into the bottle and rubbing the formula on your face, so that you don’t end up losing a lot of it down on your neck.
  2. Usage: As a result of its thin texture, a lot more gets used as compared to the Hyaluronic 2%, because you have to dispense a lot more in order to feel the hydration.
  3. Base for moisturizer: Hyaluronic acid acts as a good base / hydrator before proceeding with your moisturizer. However, with a thicker Hyaluronic Acid Serum, the application of the moisturizer gets a little tacky. With this being said, it is kind of obvious that the best product to choose would be the Marine Hyaluronics given its thinner texture. But, if you are lucky enough to find a moisturizer with a good texture, which blends nicely,  then the viscosity of the Hyaluronic Acid Serum is hardly a concern.

So, owing to all the above reasons, I’d like to defer, that I will not be repurchasing the Marine Hyaluronics. It simply doesn’t work for me, I need to use a lot more of it and despite that it doesn’t give me that feeling of my skin being well hydrated as compared to the HA 2%.

Also please note that I have nothing against the brand at all. I love DECIEM – The Ordinary. I love their HYALURONIC ACID 2% and I finished two bottles of it already. But we’re all different people, what works for one individual may not work for another. And The Ordinary’s Marine Hyaluronics is one product from their line that doesn’t work for me.

Alright, that’s all for now. Until next time !
